Ms. Naomi Cidi named new head of Adopt-A-light

Former Deputy Managing Director of the Kenya Airports Authority, Ms. Naomi Cidi has been named the new Managing Director for Adopt –A-Light .

While making the announcement at a press conference in a Nairobi hotel, the out-going Managing Director Ms. Esther Pasaris described Ms Cidi as “a lady of superb experience and credentials’ who will be charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the company “grows to the next phase.”

Ms Pasaris added that the new Managing Director will be assisted by a board of directors that “will be named soon.”

The outgoing MD also named Mr. Maina Kariuki to be in charge of the “Driving Kenya- One in a Million Foundation”. She said Mr. Kariuki is not new to the concept of social corporate responsibility. “He has a wealth of multinational corporate experience, contacts and drive that this foundation genuinely needs.”

Ms. Pasaris also indicated her interest in running for the position of Mayor of Nairobi City. She said the city needs a mayor who will ensure there’s accountability and good governance to the people of Nairobi.  “If the ODM believes that I should step into those shoes, I will do it.” She said, however adding that she was committed to support whoever the ODM councilors will settle on. Ms. Pasaris said she was convinced that the new mayor of Nairobi City will come from the ODM camp and should be able to carry on “the vision of our captain” –in an apparent reference to party leader Hon. Raila Odinga.

On the city economy she said “we in business need a social conscience. There are wrongs which need attention. There are many people who are poor and need help. We have a responsibility to them and to Kenya.”

She noted that since Adopt-A-Light became a reality, crime rate had reduced through less rape, muggings and petty crime. She further thanked the city residents for the support they had given the company “even in our most trying moments. Especially in battles against those who sort to derail this noble project.”

The relationship between her company and the City Council, she said still needs to be smoothened out “to make sure nothing holds back a venture whose benefits to Nairobians is beyond debate.”
