UNIFEM Gender and Governance Project (GGP III) Receives Warm Welcome in Western Province

GGP III receives warm welcome

Community Research in Environment and Development Initiatives (CREADIS)’s newly launched UNIFEM Gender and Governance Project has received a warm welcome from various communities in Western Kenya.

  The project entitled “Enhancing Women Participation in Decision Making and Access to Service Delivery” is aimed at emphasising the rights of the individual with special focus on vulnerable groups; in this case, women and youth.  The project is also aimed at enhancing women participation in decision making at local levels and actively lobbying for women’s issues, enhancing women access to government services and enhancing women participation in the management of   devolved funds.

Gender and Governance Lobby Group formed in Teso North District

Alice NabweraThe people of Teso North district have formed a gender and governance lobby group.

The group which was formed shortly after a United Nations Fund for Women Development (UNIFEM) and Community Research in Environment and Development Initiatives (CREADIS) training on enhancing women’s participation in local leadership will aim at overseeing gender issues in the various communities in Teso district.

The new lobby group’s duties will include advocating for women’s issues on the government development agenda and influencing decisions made by the government concerning the welfare of women and young people in the area.

WSP-K Kasipul Kabondo Constituency

WSP-K induction Workshop - Kasipul Kabondo ConstituencyKasipul Kabondo Constituency is one of the two constituencies in Rachuonyo District, Nyanza Province.In this area it was brought to light how women had been given limited spaces in leadership at the local level. There were about five women leaders in the entire region. It was brought out that women were not entrusted with leadership when it came to matters of government representation but were given leadership in churches.


This being in contrary with the WSP-K objectives of seeing more women in leadership positions especially political positions both locally and at a national level, led to the WSP-K induction workshop in Kasipul Kabondo constituency

WSP-K in Eldoret South Constituency
