UNIFEM conducts RBM training for its GGP III Programme partners

The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) held a four day Result Based Management (RBM) skills training workshop for its GGP III program partners at Naivasha’s Sopa Lodge last December.

The workshop targeted Programme officers, Monitoring and Evaluation officers as well as finance officers with the aim of building capacity on RBM and institutionalizing the RBM culture which is crucial in achieving the desired project results.

The training provided knowledge and skills on how to develop, monitor and achieve the desired programmatic results. The participants were taken through results based management and reporting procedures with special focus on the formats of the GGP III Programme.

Some of the areas covered included the key elements of RBM, the institutional RBM culture, RBM principles as well as the relationship between RBM and Human Rights Based Approach.Also, the participants were taken through the theory of change in relation to results, how to develop results using the results chain, assumptions, risks and indicators of change.

Mr. Frederick Ochien’g, the Monitoring and Evaluation specialist for Gender and Governance Programme, told the participants the training was necessary to enable institutions be accountable for results not only for the GGP programme but also for other programmes within their organizations because the RBM tenets cut across the board.

The participants lauded the training saying it could not have come at a better time. Mr. Caleb Magomere an accountant with the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) said the training was comprehensive as it provided clear guidelines for proper management of finances while achieving the desired results. “The training was timely and relevant because it captured the key result areas as well as financial accountability”, he said.

Another participant of the workshop Ms. Lilian Kariuki, a programme officer at Education Centre for the Advancement of Women (ECAW) said the training was necessary because it iron out the gray areas in project implementation and provided clear structures of developing, planning and managing results.

The training equipped the participants with the reporting formats for the progressive, financial and final reports as recommend by UNIFEM. At the end of the training, the GGP III partners were expected to develop and strengthen new tools and processes that will enable them to effectively manage and report technical and financial results of the GGP III interventions.
