Leadership for Girls is important for the development of the society because when girls are trained on leadership, they become more effective in delegating their duties and skills in the fields therefore benefiting not only themselves, but also the entire community.

Leadership for Girls has been approved to be very effective and sometimes much better than for their men counterparts. There has been a saying among the many communities that, “when you educate a girl, you have educated the whole society.”

Muthua of Education Review Kenya Review: “Another saying states that, “A girl needs to be taught one thing and the rest she acquires by herself.” This means that if girls are given a chance to become leaders, then the society will benefit so much. It therefore of importance that Leadership for Girls is put forth to nurture that talent in girl child.”

Muthua says that Leadership for Girls can nurtured through various ways. One of the effective ways to nurture girls into becoming leaders of tomorrow is by establishing institutions or places that will enroll the young women to leadership courses. For example, Africa leadership academy in South Africa was established to develop effective Leadership for Girls and boys.

However, the official says that there have been even Leadership for Girls academies such as the one established by Opra. The other method of creating Leadership for Girls is by holding seminars and conferences that will bring girls together from various parts of the world. In these seminars, leadership skills and features are discussed, taught or inflicted through various projects.

“Girls are taught how to believe in themselves, to have good relationships with others and to be good team players, which will be good in promoting them in becoming good leaders of tomorrow,” says Muthua.

The Official continued: “Camps such as that for GLAD (The Girls Leadership and Development) help to improve and boost the girls self esteem in becoming good leaders. Girl guiding and girl scouting has been movements that have been for long time now empowering Leadership for Girls.”

Muthua argues that workshops are also held to empower, teach and enable girls to practice their leadership skills. Some of the common held workshops that have been held to motivate girls is the Girls’ Leadership Workshop (GLW).

In a report posted on the Education Review Kenya website it is documented that Leadership for Girls can enable girls realize their ability as leaders and make them start working had to become one. For long, women have been denied a chance to speak out or becoming leaders in any areas. Men have always being in domination in these areas, but have not been doing well.

Therefore, there was need to bring Leadership for Girls since women have been proved to be perfect in this area. Moreover, most of the academic fields such as humanities, science and technology are all depending on leaders, therefore to see our girls also do good in them we have to train them on leadership.

The report says Leadership For Girls may however not become successful becomes of some of the challenges it faces. For example, it may still be hard to convince girls to become leaders in the society because of the mentality they have toward the position. Some of them still live in a male dominated world and it becomes hard to fight that mentality that they can do it as girls.

It says: “Another challenge to Leadership for Girls is lack of motivation from girls. It becomes one thing to establish an academy of Leadership For Girls, but it is another thing of making them enroll. Lack of belief and lack of enough time to practice leadership is also a challenge to Leadership for Girls.”

The report further says that Leadership for Girls is necessary for nurturing the leadership skills in girls and making them become good leaders of tomorrow. As a society, we need to promote girls to leadership. Let us encourage the girl child of the usefulness of becoming a leader for the society through Leadership for Girls.

On Girls Leadership Academies, Muthua says they are established to train girls in becoming important and effective leaders in the society. The gender equality has made many countries or societies establish Girls Leadership Academies because it is hard for any woman to come forward and say she would like to become a leader.

“The societies are still having the traditional mind that the woman is for the kitchen. The mentality has even made women not to believe in themselves therefore their leadership qualities have been left underutilized,” says the official and goes on to add that: “Girls Leadership Academies aims at giving girls a self esteem and make them change their mind about the whole idea therefore fighting together with men for the leadership positions.”

Muthua argues that Girls’ Leadership Academies create some specific actions and environs which include; creativity, freedom or independence to pursuit individual interest and financial independence. This core features help raise future leadership skills in girls.

The academies have identified creativity as a core component to success. Creativity will make girls have self awareness, self motive and become successful. Creativity enables one to think further in solving of problems and establishment of new opportunities. According to Girls Leadership Academies creativity in girls begins with a person becomes curious of anything.

The report on the academies says that: “If a girl builds interest in subject or field, it is good to let the girl have that thing. Many girls like taking roles and their curiosities is not left behind in the roles they play.”

“For example, you will see girls pretend to new mothers and with the dolls they have they will take care of them as if they are real. Girls Leadership Academies encourages parents and teachers to let the girl realize herself and from the creativity a leadership personality is build,” the report continued.

It says that Girls Leadership Academies assist the girls to pursue their line of interest, which it might be hard for them to practice if they are somewhere else like home because there is no environment that encourages their spirits adding that: “The leadership for girls assists girls to realize their passions, encourage them to exercise them and go a step further to train and nurture them so that they become perfect in the fields.”

It goes on: “For example, a girl may have interest in fashion, so the Girls Leadership Academies will provide facilities that will see the girl perfect in the area may by taking a course in fashion design. Her interests may become her strength that will make her become a leader in that area one day.”

The report says that the Academies enable girls to cut the code of financial dependence on either their parents or their husbands when they grow up. One cannot become an effective leader if she still depends on other for financial aid.

Muthua says: “Remember, every learned woman and with a job has a voice in her house and even in the society because she does not have to depend on anyone for financial help. According to Girls Leaders hip Academies, financial status of a woman instills confidence in her and enables her to make choices that are effective.”

Therefore, the Girls Leadership Academies encourages and trains girls on how to be independent financially and also help them to have a healthy relationship with a lot of money.

Muthua says the Girls Leadership Academies are meant to nurture and build leadership skills in girls. Various features such as creativity, perfection in one’s interests and financial stability of the girls is instilled in girls. Therefore, girls are taught the major leadership skills most of them that are with them, but they are made to become perfect in them by the help of the Girls Leadership Academies.
